When Wynn Resorts appointed Marilyn Winn as president of the Wynn Vegas and Encore resorts, some experts predicted that her appointment would cause a huge change within the company that mainly focuses on visitors within the higher segment.
Winn, one of only three casino presidents on the Las Vegas Strip, is the former president of Bally’s, Paris Las Vegas and Planet Hollywood in commission of her previous employer, Caesars Entertainment. That company is known for its large casino chains that mostly attract middle-class customers. Marilyn Winn claims that she will operate Wynn Resorts differently. She stated: ‘It would make no sense to go into the middle class direction with Wynn Resorts, because it’s not a national casino chain and we will absolutely stay focused on the luxury market.
Up until now Wynn Resorts is not as badly affected by the general malaise on the Las Vegas Strip as its counterparts. Wynn Resort’s debt is relatively small and a large part of its revenue is generated in booming Macau, where they recently opened a second resort. Plans to open a third resort in the Chinese gambling city are becoming more and more concrete. |
